Robyn Hughes Ryman
Robyn Hughes Ryman is the CEO of DanceWrite and co-author of the Benesh for Ballet ebook series.
Robyn began her dance training in Gladstone, Australia, obtaining The Royal Academy of Dancing Elementary Certificate in 1972. She attended The Australian Ballet School (Melbourne, Australia) in 1974. After completing The Australian Ballet School Diploma (ABSDip.) in 1975 she performed with Ballet Victoria (Melbourne). She then attended The Benesh Institute of Choreology (London, England) in 1978, receiving her Advanced Teacher’s Diploma in Benesh Movement Notation in 1979 and her Associate of the Institute of Choreology (AIChor) designation in 1987, and was elected Fellow of the Institute of Choreology (FIChor) in 1988. Robyn earned her Master of Arts in Dance at York University, Toronto, Canada, in 2010.
Robyn has worked as a dancer or choreologist for Ballet Victoria (Australia), Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet (England), the Bayerisches Staatsballett (Germany), Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet, and The National Ballet of Canada. She has reconstructed Lynne Seymour’s Intimate Letters, Sir Frederick Ashton’s Les Patineurs and Façade, and has served as rehearsal mistress for Brian Macdonald’s Newcomers and Rudolf Nureyev’s Sleeping Beauty. Robyn has also documented the works of choreographers David Earle, Danny Grossman, and Patricia Beatty, and has worked at York University, University of Waterloo, Ontario Science Centre, Banff School of Fine Arts, and Canada’s National Ballet School.
Robyn moderates the Global Benesh Community Facebook Group and the Benesh for Ballet Facebook Page, and is currently a member of the Benesh Technical Advisory Panel (BenTAP). She presented the Benesh for Ballet ebook series at BenMove, the International Benesh Congress held in Paris in July 2017.
